Roy
Hutchison - Indian Reproduction Pottery
A
Diamondhead resident for ten years, Roy Hutchinson was born in northeast
Arkansas. The son of a farmer, and later a farmer himself, he has
been fascinated by Indian relics all his life. As a boy, he
surface collected arrowheads; as an adult he began to restore artifacts.
He has worked for many collectors and museums across the country.
Out of his skill at repairing and restoring authentic Caddo, Quapaw or
Mississippian vessels, he began to construct reproductions. Roy
uses wild local clays and organic pigments on his pieces he pit fires
them just as the local Indians would have done. Each piece is an
original, but each one authentically reproduces the fine pottery vessels
of the Indians who inhabited Arkansas.
